![]()
Jamendo allows the upload of albums only, although the size of the albums varies from one to the next. Jamendo is primarily just independent productions and is a great place to hear new music or to upload and promote your newest album. There are over 5000 albums available on Jamendo at this time and new ones are posted every day. Albums are made public using the Creative Commons licensing and most can be freely distributed for non commercial and some even for commercial use.
The Jamendo website is nicely done and has a professional feel to it. Onced logged in you are presented with a list of newest albums, playlists and a genre tag cloud to find what your looking for. The online jamplayer works quite well and has good search features including a tag cloud of the various music genres.
Uploading music to Jamendo is done using a web interface or their jamloader software. This can take a while as you have to load your full sized files either in wav, flac or with the jamloader you can load direct from cd. There are systems in place for artists donations, advertisement revenue sharing and reviewing of albums.
Downloading the files is done with a p2p approach using either bit torrent or e-mule clients which you have to install seperately. The downloaded files are in mp3 192kb vbr format.
