Record tracks directly into Audacity using a microphone, guitar or any other audio through the soundcards line input.
It can import and export most widely used audio formats WAV, AIFF, AU, and OGG Vorbis and prepare audio files for burning onto a cd. There is an ‘Imprt Raw’ function which will allow you to work with audio files not containg any header information.
You can run the audio through effects and filters to further optimise the sound and improve the quality. There are plugins available allowing the use of vst technology as well as adding new effects to Audacity.
Audacity is a very useful program for any producer or sound designer needing to do editing to sound samples and audio files. For Ableton Live users it can integrate into Lives workflow and provide the ability to convert your files to mp3 format with the addition of the ‘Lame mp3 encoder’ for distribution of your songs on-line.
